Using Registry Easy Registry Cleaner

The Registry Easy program contains a variety of system maintenance utilities that can help your system run faster and with fewer crashes (see Figure 1), as follows:

· Scan & Clean – scans for and cleans up junk files on your computer, including temporary files, log files, files with zero size, backup files, and more.

· Backup – sets a restore point (only for Windows 2000 and XP), backup IE favorites/bookmarks, and backup files and folders.

· Optimize System – optimize Windows settings or reset them to a previous state, optimize internet connection, tweak or recover memory to help your system run faster.

· System Fix – repair common Windows problems, fix invalid file associations, register ActiveX and .DLL objects, fix errors with menu shortcuts, repair Windows Sockets (Winsock2) problems.

· System Tools – Block malicious ActiveX controls, recover deleted data, split and join large files, recover passwords, manage the startup menu, uninstall programs.

· IE Tools – remove unused IE plug-ins, fix IE problems, restore IE default settings, and customize IE settings.

Scanning and Cleaning Disk Drives

Use the Scan & Clean functions to clean up junk and duplicate files, which are an unnecessary use of disk space and hamper your computer’s performance.

Scanning and Removing Junk Files

Junk files include backup files, files with zero size, log files, temporary files, and more. To scan for and remove junk files:

1. From the main window, click Scan & Clean and click Junk File Cleaner. A list of the computer’s disk drives displays (see Figure 1).

2. Select the file types from the list or click Select All to scan for all junk file types.

3. Click Next. The scan’s progress displays (see Figure 2).

4. When the scan is complete, click Next. Registry Easy displays the disk drives that contain junk files (see Figure 3).

5. To view the details for a specific disk drive, double-click it.

OR

To view the results of the entire scan, click the Click here link at the bottom of the screen. The list of junk files displays (see Figure 4).

6. Click Return to return to return to the list of drives.

7. Click Next. Registry Easy displays the options for cleaning up the junk files (see

Figure 5)

8. Select a file clean-up option:

  • Permanently delete files.
  • Move files to Recycle Bin.
  • Move all files in one folder. If selecting this option, a dialog box prompts for the folder location. Navigate to the folder and click OK.

9. Click Next. The status of the file clean-up displays. The files are moved to the destination and deleted from the source drive.

10. Click Finish.

Scanning and Removing Duplicate Files

To scan for and remove duplicate files:

1. From the main window, click Scan & Clean and click Duplicate File Cleaner. The scan criteria screen displays (see Figure 6).

2. Select the scan options (refer to Table 1 for more information).

3. Click My Computer to scan all drives on the computer

OR

Select the specific drives to scan.

4. Click Scan Now. The status of the scan displays. When the scan is compete, the results of the scan display. Groups of files with potential duplicates are indicated (see Figure 7).

5. To select the files to delete, click the group heading to remove all but the first file on the list

OR

Select the specific files to delete under each group.

Note: Only delete files you know you don’t need. Files are permanently removed.

6. Click Delete. The results of the deletion display.

7. Click Finish.
