Fixing Your System

Use these tools to repair common problems with files, shortcuts, ActiveX controls, and more (see Figure 19).

Using the Easy Repair Wizard

To use the Easy Repair Wizard:

1. From the main window, click System Fix and click Easy Repair Wizard. The wizard displays common problems (see Figure 20).

2. Click the items need to be fixed.

3. Click Next. A dialog box displays a list of the errors to be fixed.

4. Click Go Back to change the items or Next to continue. A status bar displays the status of the fixes. When the fixes are complete, a message displays indicating completion of the repairs.

5. Click Finish.

Fixing Windows Errors

To use fix Windows errors:

1. From the main window, click System Fix and click Error Utilities. A list of error options displays (see Figure 21).

2. Select the items to fix or click Select All (except IE 5.x and IE 6.x options).

3. Click Repair. A dialog box confirms the items were fixed.

Fixing Invalid File Associations

To fix invalid file associations:

1. From the main window, click System Fix and click File Association. A list of file association options displays (see Figure 22).

2. Items with an associated Error Type require repairs. Click the associated checkbox to fix the error.

3. Click Repair. A dialog box confirms the items were fixed.

Registering ActiveX and .DLL Objects in the Registry

To register ActiveX and .DLL objects:

1. From the main window, click System Fix and click Register ActiveX. A list of ActiveX and .DLL objects with registry errors displays (see Figure 23).

2. Select the errors to fix and click Re-Register. A dialog box confirms items were fixed.

Using the Shortcuts Fixer

To use fix shortcuts:

1. From the main window, click System Fix and click Shortcuts Fixer. A list of disk drives displays (see Figure 24).

2. Click the appropriate checkboxes to select disk drives

OR

Click My Computer to select all disk drives.

3. Click Scan Now. The scan Status displays. When the scan completes, a list of shortcuts displays (see Figure 25).

4. Click the checkboxes for the shortcuts to delete.

5. Click Delete. A confirmation box prompts for confirmation of the deletion.

Note: only delete shortcuts you know you don’t need or you know shouldn’t work/are broken.

6. Click Yes. The items are moved to recycle bin and a final list of the deleted items displays (see Figure 26).

7. Click Finish.

Repairing Winsock2 Registry Keys

The Windows Sockets (Winsock) application program interface is the Windows interface to the Internet communications protocol. The Winsock2 catalog in the registry may need repair under some circumstances.

To repair Winsock2 registry keys:

1. From the main window, click System Fix and click Winsock2 Repair. A list of errors displays (see Figure 27).

2. Click Repair. A dialog box confirms the operation.

Note: Close all applications before running this function. The computer will restart during this process.
