Using Registry Easy System Tools

Use the System Tools to lock and unlock ActiveX controls to prevent malicious controls from being installed on your PC, recover deleted files, split and join files, recover passwords, manage the programs on the startup menu and uninstall programs (see Figure 28).

Blocking Malicious ActiveX Controls

Registry Easy provides tools to lock ActiveX controls to prevent them from being installed on your PC. Some ActiveX controls are malicious and may cause performance problems. The controls may also be unlocked so they can be installed.

To block ActiveX controls:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click Block ActiveX. A list of ActiveX items and their status displays (see Figure 29).

2. Click the items to block or click Select All.

3. Click Lock to block installation of the selected controls. A status bar displays and the Status column entry for the selected items changes from “Unlocked” to “Locked”.

To unblock the controls:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click Block ActiveX. A list of ActiveX items and their status displays (see Figure 29).

2. Click the items to unblock or click Select All.

3. Click UnLock to allow installation of the selected controls. A status bar displays and the Status column entry for the selected items changes from “Locked” to “Unlocked”.

Recovering Files

Registry Easy provides tools to recovers deleted files, including files that have been deleted from the Recycle Bin.

To recover files:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click File Recoveryer. The File Recovery window displays (see Figure 30).

2. Select the type of file to search for from the Search for drop-down list.

3. Select the disk drive from the Scan volume drop-down list.

4. Click Scan Now. The scan progress displays the amount of storage space scanned and a list of deleted files that can be recovered (see Figure 31).

5. Click the files to recover or click Select All.

6. To select a location where the files should be restored, click Browse to the right of the Recovery to field. Navigate to a folder and click OK.

7. Click Recover. A dialog box confirms recovery of the files.

Splitting and Joining Files

Registry Easy provides tools to split large files so they’re easier to FTP, e-mail, or distribute electronically.

To split files:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click File Splitter and Joiner. The File Splitter/Joiner window displays (see Figure 32).

2. Enter the name of the file to split into the Name field

OR

Click Browse to navigate to the folder. Click the file name and click Open to select it.

3. Enter the name of the folder where the split file should be placed

OR

Click Browse to navigate to the folder. Click OK to select it.

4. Select a maximum file size for each piece. The number of pieces displays at the bottom of the screen.

5. Click Add Self-Uniting Functionality To the splitted files set (for windows2000/XP/Vista) to enable the files to be joined without using the Registry Easy program. Instead, a .bat file is also created in the destination folder. Double-clicking this file joins it automatically.

6. Click Split Now. A status bar displays the file split progress. A dialog box confirms successful completion.

To join files:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click File Splitter and Joiner. The File Splitter/Joiner window displays (see Figure 32).

2. Click the File Joiner tab (see Figure 33).

1. Click Browse to locate any of the file pieces. The information about the set of pieces displays in the Piece Set Information area.

2. Click Browse below the Piece Set Information area to select a folder where the joined file should be saved.

3. Click Join Now. A status bar displays the progress of the file join. A dialog box confirms successful completion.

Recovering Passwords

To recover passwords:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click Password Recovery. The Password Recovery window displays (see Figure 34).

2. Click the password to recover or click Recover All Passwords.

3. Click Next. A list of passwords displays.

4. Click Save to file to save a text file with the passwords.

Managing Startup Programs

Use the Startup Manager to configure the programs that startup when the computer starts.

To enable programs:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click Startup Manager. An applications list displays with current status (see Figure 35).

2. Click the checkboxes for the disabled programs that are to be enabled.

3. Click Enable Selected. The programs are enabled and their status changes on the list.

To disable programs:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click Startup Manager. An applications list displays with current status (see Figure 35).

2. Click the checkboxes for the enabled programs that are to be disabled.

3. Click Disable Selected. The programs are disabled and their status changes on the list.

To remove programs:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click Startup Manager. An applications list displays with current status (see Figure 35).

2. Click the checkboxes for the programs to be removed.

3. Click Remove Selected. The programs are removed, deleted from the list and moved to the restore list.

To restore removed programs:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click Startup Manager. An applications list displays with current status (see Figure 35).

2. Click the Restore List tab (see Figure 36).

3. Click the checkboxes for the programs to restore.

4. Click Restore Item. The programs are restored, deleted from the restore list and moved to the startup list.

Uninstalling Programs

Use the Uninstall manager to remove any program currently installed on your PC.

To uninstall programs:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click Uninstall Manager. The list of installed programs displays (see Figure 37).

2. Select the program to uninstall and click Uninstall. The install/uninstall wizard for the program launches and continues the uninstall process.

To remove program information from the registry:

1. From the main window, click System Tools and click Uninstall Manager. The list of installed programs displays (see Figure 37).

2. To remove a program’s information from the registry, select it and click Remove. A dialog box confirms removal of the program from the registry.

3. Click Yes to continue.

4. When complete, click Refresh and the program is removed from the list.
